Student Success Story: From A Greasy, Itchy Scalp to Good Hair Days Everyday!

Welcome to our latest Student Success Story! Today we are celebrating Sarah who joined Hair Growth Lab suffering with an oily and itchy scalp that was making her very self-conscious! Read her story here:

What hair problems did you struggle with before you joined Hair Growth Lab?

I have been self conscious of my hair since I was a teenager. I have a very oily scalp, and if I didn't wash my hair every day, I would have very greasy-looking hair and an itchy scalp. I think washing every day, using unhealthy products and practices for my hair and scalp type really took a toll on the health of both. I reached a hair plateau, where my hair would just not grow past mid-back length, which was discouraging for me too.

I've always imagined myself with long, tousled hair- it feels in tune with who I am, and I've always been a little disappointed that I couldn't fulfill that image.

What made you decide to join?

I went through a life-altering experience with OCD and intrusive thoughts about a year ago. I didn't think I was going to be alive much longer- I couldn't eat, I couldn't sleep, and I was terrified to tell anyone what was happening (I didn't know myself at the time). Recovering from that experience changed my whole perspective about who I wanted to be and how I wanted to live. I've been healing at my own pace, and focusing on the things that I actually want to do, and things that truly make my life a happy and fulfilling one (to my best ability). My happiness and well-being became a priority.

I tried out Sarah's 14 day challenge because it looked like something I would have fun with and maybe learn from. I was absolutely skeptical that this would be another quick-fix course (honestly I don't really trust influencers). However, I ended up being blown away by how much knowledge Sarah and her team had, and how genuine the program was. So much of the program is research-heavy, scientifically based, and it focuses on health as a whole- not some quick fix to luxurious hair.

It was after Sarah's message of empowerment over marketing (and what we're taught to believe about health and beauty) that something really clicked and I decided to join the Hair Growth Lab program. I knew this was going to be an investment in my overall health and happiness. I believed in Sarah's approach to health and well-being, and the way she gave us knowledge while letting us decide what to do with it. I dug into my savings a bit, but it was more than worth it for everything I've gained from this program, and the people I've met, even less than two months in.

What results have you seen since implementing the learnings?

The biggest difference so far has been in my physical health. I spent several weeks on the module on internal practices. I have way more energy now and a better understanding of what my body personally lacks and what it needs. (And what it doesn't like so much). I feel better physically and mentally, which is so important in my healing process.

Aside from the health benefits, I've gained so much more confidence in my hair- I have so many more "good hair days" than I ever have. I really don't have to put in as much effort, because my hair is healthier now. (For example, I used to have to heat style to make my hair look smooth, and I don't use heat anymore.) My hair has gotten so silky, and feels "light" (compared to feeling weighed down by a greasy scalp). The best part is that I can go more than a day without washing my hair, and it still looks and feels nice! Something I thought would never be possible.

What areas of the Hair Growth Lab Course made the biggest difference for you? How did it feel having a community to be part of?

I love that I can go at my own pace, and can always come back to re-watch lessons and ask questions in the community with so much support. The women in the community are so loving and supportive- they are there to help and support each other. I'm part of an accountability group with a couple ladies from HGL on Instagram, and we message each other quite frequently, sharing out progress and setbacks, and we keep each other accountable when feeling discouraged. I feel like I've made new friends who I can talk to as we work toward similar goals. (Not sure if I'm allowed to tag them for this interview, or if that's necessary).

What is the next goal/milestone you would like to reach with your hair?

My goal is for my hair to reach lower back or tailbone length. I would love to break through the plateau I've been stuck at. Tousled, strong, long hair to me would feel in tune with the image I have for myself as I move forward. Even if my hair didn't get there, I've gained knowledge to better my overall mental and physical health. (And my goal would be to continue building on that knowledge).

It is so amazing that Sarah has already made so much progress in 45 Days! She has resolved so many of her issues and grown her hair so much longer in the process!!! We are so excited to see what’s next for her in her hair journey and watch her achieve her dream goal of having super long and strong hair!
